Memorisation plays an important role in achieving your aspirations and doing it in a shorter period. Why? Stepping onto the journey to make a shift in your current life situation involves gaining the right information, knowledge, and practicing new tools and techniques. When you invest in expanding the way you memorise, you lay the foundation for retaining information, gaining knowledge, flexibility, adaptability, motivation, perseverance, efficient learning, practicing, remembering, effective planning, and problem-solving. This results in faster progress toward your goals and vision.
Tips to make the most of the techniques:
Focus is essential because when you maintain a high level of focus, your brain is more effective at encoding, consolidating, and retrieving information. This heightened state of attention improves your ability to process and remember information, as well as increases your efficiency and productivity.
By consistently practicing and strengthening your focus, you will enhance your ability to tackle complex tasks and achieve your goals with greater ease. Click here to discover how to master the skill of focus.
Writing notes by hand offers a powerful way to deepen your understanding and retention of information. This technique engages your brain more actively compared to typing, as the physical act of writing involves multiple cognitive processes that help to encode and embed the information more effectively into your memory.
When taking notes, use your own words to summarise key points and insights, which reinforces your understanding and aids in long-term retention. Consider organising your notes with headings, bullet points, and diagrams to make them more visually engaging and easier to review. Consistently revisiting and reviewing your handwritten notes helps reinforce the information in your memory, strengthening your understanding and retention. By incorporating this practice into your routine, you can ensure that important details are retained and easily accessible.
Repetition is the key to retention. The importance of repetition can be summarised with a quote from Zig Ziglar: “Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment.”
When you hear or read something new and interesting, take a few seconds (approximately 10-15 seconds) of a break and do nothing. This tiny pause allows your brain to process, absorb, and memorise the information ten times faster during that time.
Important: ensure that you only use this technique in a safe environment. Avoid doing this while driving, operating equipment or machinery, being in the water, or performing any task that requires your full attention.
Short naps of 10 to 60 minutes within some period after memorising can significantly improve memory consolidation and cognitive function.
Tips to maximise the benefits:
When? Early afternoon between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
How? Find a quiet, comfortable place without distractions, dim the lights, or wear an eye mask. Relax and clear your mind before the nap by taking a few deep breaths or doing a short meditation or yoga nidra. Allow yourself a few minutes to gradually wake up when it’s time to do so.
Cultivating practices like Meditation, Yoga Nidra, T’ai Chi, and Qigong can significantly enhance your focus, attention, and memorisation. How? These practices help you cultivate a profound sense of calm, peace, and inner spaciousness, all while refining your ability to practice and maintain consciousness.
